I got started in CrossFit because my daughter, Lynette, kept encouraging me to come work out with her at the box she was coaching at. After seeing what Lynette could do, (and hoping someday to do half as good) I joined CrossFit and loved it from the start. As I got faster and fitter over time, (getting to do movements I never thought I could do, (like climbing a rope and deadlifting 175 pounds!) I realized that the coaches were what made the difference in my gains. So, I took the next step and got my Level I Trainer’s certification in November 2014 and my CrossFit Kids certification soon after. I love working with the kids, but I especially like working with senior Masters athletes, because they are my age and older people need to know that not only can they do CrossFit workouts, they can excel at them. With my CrossFIt Masters certification, I’m here to help with that. Lynette and I shared a grand vision and together became co-owners of UnCharted CrossFit. All I can say is, how lucky am I that I get to be partners with my daughter in an enterprise we both love doing – who gets that opportunity in their lives? I am blessed to be working with talented coaches and athletes who care about our UnCharted CrossFit Community – exploring the road less traveled.

I’ve been involved in sports for as long as I can remember. Growing up I played baseball, soccer, hockey, and football. I wouldn’t say that I was or am naturally athletic, but I’m fiercely competitive and always tried to be the hardest worker in the room. Baseball became my passion, and I worked tirelessly to reach the highest level in the sport possible. Ultimately, I was able to turn that hard work into a baseball scholarship to Saint Louis University and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 2008. With my playing days behind me, I stayed involved in the game as a coach, and in 2009 I started coaching high school and competitive youth baseball. That started me on a path of coaching baseball over the next nine years that included running an indoor baseball facility and providing baseball instruction as a full time career. Even after I was finished playing ball, I never stopped exercising or lifting weights. I had memberships at several gyms before turning to at home DVD’s like the various P90X and Insanity series. I saw great results with those, but after years of working out alone in the basement and seeing my progress stall out, I needed something new. At a Super Bowl party in 2017, several friends suggested that I try CrossFit for the community and the challenging, but fun, nature of the workouts. The next day I drove to a nearby CrossFit affiliate to see what it was all about. I was hooked instantly. As I improved as a CrossFit athlete and the coaches helped me achieve new levels of fitness, learn new skills, and hit new PRs, it became clear that I wanted to combine my passion and experiences from coaching baseball with my new passion for CrossFit to help other members in our community achieve their fitness goals. I earned my CrossFit Level 1 in September 2019, and until this summer, I coached between 3-5 classes/week at my former affiliate. I also have my Precision Nutrition Level 1 certification and have done some nutrition coaching with clients over the last two years. I’m excited to join the UnCharted CrossFit community, step back on the floor to coach, and help as many people as possible to achieve their health, nutrition, and fitness goals!

I was lucky to have worked out and coached with Lynette “back in the day.” We got our Level 1 certifications together and when she opened her own place, UnCharted CrossFit, in early 2015, I was excited to join as an original coach. I haven’t looked back. I worked at the time at Cheer St. Louis as the Tumbling Director / Head Coach, teaching kids the techniques and skills to help them reach their goals. It’s the same with adults, especially many of our CrossFit community members who are dedicated and motivated to achieve certain goals for themselves. And I get to do that as an UnCharted CrossFit Coach. As a medic I sometimes see people at their worst, so having the ability to coach gives me the chance to be with people at their best! It gives me joy.

I’m Chris and I started coaching CrossFit in July of 2023! Originally from Winder, Georgia, I played Football, Basketball, and Baseball in high school, but also was a part of a state championship weightlifting team. I played football my first year of college, but then settled into playing any intermural sport I could. In April of 2019, as I moved to a place where I had no friends or family, and was in search of a community. I found that community in CrossFit and have since become addicted. I now live in St. Charles, Mo with my wife and daughter! From my background in team sports, I love to bring that energy to everyone in the gym. If you need any weightlifting tips or tricks, I’m your guy! (Hint: its all about the shoes and gear).

The last 10 years have been a whirlwind with CrossFit. I started off loving to compete and being the average ‘go-hard until you die’ mentality as a beginner. I spent the first year making rookie mistakes. I thought I knew what I was doing since I had played soccer for over 15 years. Boy, was I wrong. I finally started listening. I started linking nutrition, rest, and a positive mindset together. What I found was that I was really good at helping beginners feel comfortable about starting CrossFit. I fell in love with coaching. I spent time educating myself: I was a lab scientist during the day and a CrossFit coach at night. I finally took a leap, left the hospital setting and for the last 5 years I have been a full-time CrossFit and fitness coach. I enjoy guiding those who are on a journey and trying to make the path less scary when trying to better oneself. At the beginning of this year, I took a little break from coaching to catch up on life, but it felt time to hop back into coaching and helping others. I’m really excited to be a part of the UnCharted community and will see you at the gym!
