Who goes skiing for a week, lands at the airport from their vacation and comes right to the box to do 19.1 an hour before the Monday deadline? Who has shown grit and determination in their workouts, steadily improving week by week? Who cheers on everyone every class? And who just doesn't know their own strength? You know this athlete because a smile like this can only be one person:

First and foremost, I want to say thank you to the UCCF coaches for naming me the Spotlight Athlete for March. I’m so honored and this means so much to me! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
     My story is a little different. I have not lost 30 lbs, increased my 1RM or gotten my first muscle up. My biggest transformation over the past 18 months at UCCF has been related to improving my quality of life.
     For those of you who do not know, I used to be a college athlete. I started playing soccer when I was 4 years old and my whole life has revolved around it. Soccer was my PASSION. My LIFE. My EVERYTHING. By the time I was 17, I had signed a contract to play division 1 soccer and couldn’t have been more excited. It was going to be exactly what I had dreamed of for so many years….pre-season 3 a-days, traveling around the country, free swag, the whole shebang! Well, little did I know… the last season of my high school career, I would slip on a drain tile that was accidentally left uncovered on a soccer field and completely blow out my ankle. After my injury, I ended up taking a year off to recover and I transferred to another university. I worked through my injury and ended up coming back even stronger. I was team captain, all conference, 'Newcomer of the ear and all that jazz. Now looking back, I am so thankful for my decision to continue playing soccer and NOT to give up when faced with an injury! Soccer had provided me with purpose and a network of friends that was invaluable from age 4 – 22.

 After my senior year of college, I struggled with transitioning away from my former soccer life. I felt like I lost my purpose and the network that I had for so many years through soccer. However, I landed an awesome job out of college and used the same drive and commitment I learned from soccer to be successful at work. I was promoted six times over the course of six years. I was a Finance Director at one of the largest manufacturing companies in the world at the age of 27 which was pretty amazing. The only problem was that my quality of life was suffering.

     I would wake up around 6 am, get to work around 8, work for 12 hours and then come home only to have enough time to relax and then get ready for the next day. I was eating poorly because I was in the office for lunch and dinner. I was losing friends because I was working 60 hours / week + some weekends. I never saw my family. I even stopped going to church. My body which was once muscle was turning into fat because I never worked out and mentally, all I could think about was work. I would lay in bed at night unable to sleep because all I could think about was the next presentation that I needed to get to my VP or the deadline that I needed to hit. About a year and a half ago was when I hit my turning point and decided to turn my life around.  I realized that my lifestyle was unhealthy, and I needed to make a change. I finally decided that the first step towards change was joining a CrossFit gym and the rest is history!


     They say that the quickest road to self-improvement is to surround ourselves with people who are better than us. I am so happy with my choice to surround myself with the community at UnCharted!! I truly believe that we push each other each and every day not only to be better athletes but to be better people, and I absolutely LOVE that about this box. You all have truly helped me improve my quality of life and I am so thankful for each and every one of you! UCCF has helped me fill the hole I had when I stopped playing soccer plus a whole lot more. Since joining UCCF I have left my crazy job, I am going to church every Sunday, I am able to spend time with friends and family and I am so much happier and healthier.

      CrossFit has become such a huge part of my life and I cannot imagine ever living without it again!! UCCF helps me maintain a healthy and active lifestyle so that I can enjoy my favorite activities, like Scuba diving, riding roller coasters, skiing and spending time with my fiancé. With that being said, THANK YOU to all of you for pushing me day in and day out to be a better version of myself!!! I Love you guys!

     One last thing, GO TEAM WILL WOD FOR DONUTS!!!!
